COVID-19 keeping you home? Consider these alternatives

We've all got cabin fever. For those of us used to jumping on a plane at a moment's notice, to any corner of the world, this is an especially confining feeling. Even if you won't be able to get to Spain for the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, there are probably alternatives closer to home. 

Near-shore cruising is one of the hottest emerging categories, as people look for ways to get away without getting away too far. In the North American market, near-shore can mean Alaska cruises, Mississippi River cruises, and even Caribbean cruises. But the most interesting option is the small-ships that ply the waters of the Great Lakes.

Even though the lakes are vast, Great Lakes Cruise ships are small enough to host a max of 200 guests each, due to the need to fit through the locks that separate each of the lakes. This gives you the feeling of an expedition to far off shores, with the luxury of still being close to home. Most cruise lines offer itineraries that start in Chicago, Toronto, Detroit or even Thunder Bay.
